As a fitness challenge for clients and friends, I put together a team for the Vancouver Sun Run. After a steady training program and a few group training runs, we set out early on race day to tackle 10 kilometer route. By taking part in the Sun Run, and listening to others share their experience of the event (both training for and racing), I was quickly reminded why we take part in running events.

Looking for a simple but fast cover-up to screen an old fence or wall, an unsightly building or a nosy neighbour? Why not make good use of some interesting and attractive vines.

When we think of rhododendrons, we usually conjure up images of lush foliaged varieties smothered in huge trusses of blossoms. According to the respected Oregon rhododendron authority, Ted Van Veen, over 800 species and over 10,000 named varieties grow within 800 miles of the North Pole and as far south as the sand dunes of Florida.

Mark your calendar for one of the most exciting and anticipated events of spring: Absolute Style, the University of the Fraser Valley’s annual fashion show, takes to the stage on Thursday, April 28.

Put your boots on and head over to the Camp River Wildlife Area for some treeplanting on April 16, near the confluence of the Hope Slough and Camp Slough on Camp River Road.
