Thousands of people flock to Cultus Lake for summer fun, but the popular tourist destination has been hit hard by flooding fallout.
A video posted to the WanderVision BC YouTube channel shows a sandy beach and dock completely covered in wood debris that was carried from forests to the lake by floodwater runoff. Massive piles of wood have been collected by heavy machinery, and are waiting to be hauled out.
While some commenters expressed dismay, others identified potential positives.
“There’s a silver lining and blessing in disguise in this, as all this washed up wood debris hopefully means less tinder for forest fires for the coming summer heatwave,” one person wrote. “And as we all know each summer is getting more hot and intense.”
“Lots of firewood for next season’s campers,” wrote another.
The WanderVision BC YouTube channel has other flood-related videos, including one showing a before-and-after comparison of the Chilliwack River Valley.
