PHOTOS: RCMP Musical Ride performs for 2 sold-out crowds in Chilliwack

The RCMP Musical Ride performed two sold-out shows in Chilliwack on Thursday, celebrating the Canadian police enforcement’s 150th anniversary.

There were 24 riders in red serge for the shows which took place at Chilliwack Heritage Park on June 29, most of whom had never ridden a horse before joining the Musical Ride team.

Each show at the big red barns in Chilliwack that day had 1,200 spectators in attendance. Before the performances, there were demonstrations by the RCMP canine unit and equestrian vaulters from Triple M Farms in Langley.

A symbol of tradition, honour, and pride, the Musical Ride is a Canadian icon recognized at home and abroad. The troop of riders, who are all police officers, and their horses perform intricate formations and drills set to music, lasting about 30 minutes. These movements demand the utmost control, timing, and co-ordination.

The RCMP Musical Ride was the very first event that took place at Chilliwack Heritage Park when it opened back in 2001. The show returned in 2009.
