A Chilliwack organization that helps improve the lives of women and girls is ready to once again hand out thousands of dollars to women in need.
Applications are now open for the Live Your Dream Awards offered by Soroptimist International of Chilliwack.
They are handed out to women in the community who are the primary financial providers for their family and are also enrolled in a post-secondary program.
Each year, Soroptimist International of Chilliwack awards approximately $5,000 in total to local women.
Dawne Morris is one of the previous recipients.
“By receiving this generous award my children and I were able to maintain a good and healthy quality of life that is challenging to maintain as a single parent and student,” she said. “We are so thankful to the Soroptimists of Chilliwack for choosing our family and for their assistance in pursuing my dream of becoming a nurse.”
Live Your Dream Awards support women who face significant obstacles in their pursuit of education and career opportunities by providing them with financial assistance, mentorship, and encouragement to help them live their dreams and create a better future for themselves and their families.
“What we want to do is help women in our community to achieve the career and the life of their dreams,” said Lori Jackson with Soroptimist International of Chilliwack. “We’re overjoyed to be able to provide these financial awards.”
The first-place recipient receives $2,500 to $3,000, the second-place recipient receives $1,500, and nominal awards are also presented to a few other deserving women. This financial support can be used to offset any costs associated with their educational pursuits, including books, childcare, and transportation.
“The Live Your Dream Award serves as a powerful acknowledgement and celebration of the achievements of women who have triumphed over challenges such as financial constraints, single parenthood, language barriers, and discrimination,” Soroptimist International of Chilliwack stated in a press release.
