A free community dinner just two days before Christmas will bring people of different cultures together to celebrate the holiday season in Chilliwack.

The Multicultural Holiday Celebration and Dinner, hosted by Streams Foundation Canada, is set for Dec. 23.

The goal of the event is to bring the community together, said Zeeshan Khan, one of the organizers.

The evening will include a free butter chicken dinner, plus coffee and tea. There will be Indigenous drumming, Christmas decorations, photos with Santa, music, dance performances, henna tattoos, and gift baskets.

The event proved to be very popular last year when they served 300 people, and had a wait list of 150.

This year’s event is set for Saturday, Dec. 23 at 4 p.m. at Evergreen Hall in Chilliwack.

People need to sign up for the event. Registration information (an Eventbrite link) will be made available through the Streams Foundation Canada Facebook page in the first week of December.

Khan said he understands that many people, like seniors, may not be on Facebook or even have a computer, but they can still sign up.

A percentage of seats will be held for those who would like to attend, but do not have internet and/or who need special assistance in booking.

The event is made possible thanks to support from the City of Chilliwack, Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board, Vancity and other community partners.

For those who either need help booking their seat for the free dinner, or for those who are not on Facebook or online can contact Zeeshan Khan with Streams Foundation Canada at 778-772-2203 or streamsfoundationcanada@gmail.com.
