Chilliwack organization hosts free barbecue for hundreds of people

Streams Foundation Canada hosted its Farm BBQ For Everyone on B.C. Day long weekend

A non-profit organization fed hundreds of people during a free lunch in Chilliwack on the B.C. Day long weekend.

Streams Foundation Canada hosted its Farm BBQ For Everyone, a free community event on Ford Road on Saturday, Aug. 5.

Zeeshan Khan, founder of Streams, figured about 250 to 300 people were fed at the event.

Free food included hamburgers, veggie burgers, corn, cherries, blueberries, and more.

They were also handing out colouring books, plus paper B.C. flags and B.C. flag pins in honour of the civic holiday.

This is not the first time Streams has hosted a meal absolutely free to anyone in the community. In the past, they held a spring dinner in April and a multicultural holiday dinner just before Christmas 2022.

The organization has done numerous community projects including its ongoing free ‘coffee with seniors’ events, river and trail cleanups, charity car washes, handing out free meal boxes on Mother’s Day, and helping staff and students with the Sardis Secondary Agriculture program plant vegetables.
