Chilliwack libraries offer numerous free events during spring break

Sasquatch-themed activities, Dog Man party, Science World, more at Chilliwack and Sardis libraries

Kids and teens can head to two libraries in Chilliwack to take in some free activities throughout spring break.

Events run from Monday, March 18 to Thursday, March 28 at the Chilliwack and Sardis libraries.

In addition to daily events like the Imagination Station, there will be a Dog Man party, Science World will be in town, plus there are four Sasquatch-themed activities.

Here’s the list of spring break events at the Chilliwack Library and Sardis Library:

Imagination Station • Join staff for an array of self-directed activities at their Imagination Station. They will have supplies set up for simple crafts and activities that encourage imaginative play. Younger children may require adult assistance. Drop in. This event takes place at the Chilliwack Library: Monday, March 18 to Thursday, March 28, (excluding Saturday and Sunday) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Science World • Science World is visiting libraries in the Fraser Valley this spring break to ask “What’s in the air up there?” Explore the ingredients of the air that make up our atmosphere and how CO2 and other factors impact the planet we live on. Learn about the water cycle, how clouds form and more. Science World’s curious facilitators will help kids of all ages better understand weather and climate with fun demonstrations and offer great ideas for how we can all positively impact our planet. This event takes place at the Chilliwack Library: Tuesday, March 19 at 10 a.m. (drop in); and Sardis Library: Tuesday, March 19 at 1 p.m. (ticketed event, tickets available at the Sardis Library).

Dog Man Party • In celebration of the newest Dog Man book’s release Dog Man: The Scarlet Shredder, join library staff anytime between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for a party at the library. Since Dog Man himself is a dog and a police officer… the library has invited both! The St. John Ambulance trained dogs from the library’s Paws 4 Stories program and members of our local RCMP will be there, as well as Dog Man themed crafts and activities. Free drop-in program for kids ages six and up, or younger children accompanied by an adult. This event takes place at the Chilliwack Library: Thursday, March 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Kids Yoga • Join yoga teacher Britt Zurowski from www.thevalleybee.ca for this play-based yoga. There will be games, poses, meditation, relaxation and a story to match the theme of emotions. Yoga mats and blankets provided. For kids ages six and older. Registration required and opens March 4 – call or drop by the library to sign up. This event takes place at the Sardis Library: Thursday, March 21 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Play it Safe • Why do animals bite? Join the BC SPCA staff for an interactive session on how to recognize when it is safe or unsafe to pet a dog, as well as how to properly meet a new dog for the first time. Through fun games, activities and videos, kids ages five and up will develop a greater understanding of canine behaviour and fearful body language. For ages five and up, registration required and opens March 4. Call or drop by the library to sign up. This event takes place at the Sardis Library: Monday, March 25 from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Journey to the Arctic • Join Bernie Walter on a trip to the frozen north, close to the North Pole. The land of polar bears, Arctic wolves, cariboo, musk oxen, Arctic hares and many kinds of birds. See the incredible scenery and the icebergs in the Arctic Ocean. It is a wonderful land to get to know full of magic and mystery. For ages seven and older, registration required and opens March 4. Call or drop by the library to sign up. This event takes place at the Sardis Library: Tuesday, March 26 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Sasquatch Cartooning for Teens & Tweens • Join local artist John Le Flock for an afternoon of drawing fun. This session will be focused on the how to draw the mysterious Sasquatch character cartoon-style. For ages 10 to 18, registration required. Call or drop by the library to sign up. This event takes place at the Chilliwack Library: Tuesday, March 26 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A Look Inside the BC SPCA • Are you curious about how the BC SPCA helps animals? Then join us for this interactive session on the work of the BC SPCA, as well as how people can help the animals in their life and community. Through activities, videos, and a craft kids will learn about ways to make a difference. For ages seven and older, registration required and opens March 4. Call or drop by the library to sign up. This event takes place at the Sardis Library: Wednesday, March 27 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Sasquatch Forest in a Jar • A Sasquatch mason jar terrarium will be the perfect addition to your home decor this spring. Bring a friend and enjoy creating the perfect forest scene for a miniature Sasquatch figurine together. All supplies provided. Registration required, for ages 16 and older. Call the library to register. This event takes place at the Chilliwack Library: Wednesday, March 27 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Sasquatch Storytime and Craft • Join library staff for this special story time featuring this mysterious creature. Drop in. This event takes place at the Chilliwack Library: Thursday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Searching for Sasquatch • Do you believe? Join Sasquatch enthusiast Jeff Narver for an all-ages talk about this mysterious phenomenon. He’ll discuss Sasquatch evidence including Indigenous mythology, as well as the rapidly growing Sasquatch culture. Attendees will get an up close look at some casts and will be provided with resources for additional study. Drop in. This event takes place at the Chilliwack Library: Thursday, March 28 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
