— Lucas Mannes had a big weekend for the undefeated Calgary Dinos, leading them to a pair of men’s basketball wins over the Grant MacEwan Griffins.

After a quiet 10 point/one assist/four rebounds night in a 104-72 road win Friday, the GW Graham grad produced 22 points in a 102-66 victory Saturday.

Mannes was locked in, shooting eight of 10 from the field, adding four rebounds and two assists.

The Dinos improved their Canada West best record to 16-0.

— Sardis grad Josie DeBruyn is getting her feet wet as a freshman with the UBC-Okanagan Heat (0-16).

She played 19 minutes combined in two games against the powerhouse Regina Cougars (11-3), producing five points and an assist.

It was the most floortime DeBruyn has seen since early October. She’d been playing anywhere from two to five minutes per night until last weekend.

Her team lost both games, 86-53 and 82-43, and they continue to search for their first win of the year.

— Kyle Helsloot’s winless Trinity Western Spartans (0-14) dropped a pair of home games to the UBC Thunderbirds (13-1).

The big man saw eight minutes of floor time in the Friday opener, scoring two points.

He got six minutes in the Saturday rematch, pulling down a rebound and adding an assist and a free throw made.

The Spartans fell by scores of 112-65 and 100-80.
