Sartori earns star status

UFV Cascades basketball player Kayli Sartori stands atop the Canada West scoring race after a solid weekend against Grant MacEwan.

Chilliwack’s Kayli Sartori, a member of the University of the Fraser Valley women’s basketball team has been named the Canada West female third star of the week.

The versatile fourth-year guard/forward authored a pair of tremendous performances as the Cascades earned a weekend split against the MacEwan Griffins.

Sartori, a graduate of Abbotsford’s W.J. Mouat Secondary, poured in a game-high 25 points and added nine rebounds and three blocks as the Cascades knocked off the Griffins 72-61 on Friday at the Envision Athletic Centre.

On Saturday, Sartori once again led all scorers with 24 points – including a clutch spin move in the lane to tie the game in the final minute – and hauled down 11 rebounds. The Griffins, though, were able to claw out a 63-59 win.

Sartori’s hot start to the season has her leading the Canada West scoring race at an even 20 points per game.

She also ranks 16th in the conference in rebounding (6.5 per game).

The female first and second stars of the week were Sarah Inglis (Trinity Western Spartans, cross-country) and Emma Cook-Clarke (Calgary Dinos, cross-country).

The Cascades (2-2) are off to Prince George this weekend to take on the UNBC Timberwolves.
