The 21st annual Sardis Strongman competition starts Monday at Sardis secondary school.

Students will test their strength and endurance over five days in five events, starting with the sled pull. Tuesday brings the sandbag shuttle followed by the tire flip on Wednesday, the sled push on Thursday and the farmer’s carry on Friday.

Friday night is the fifth annual alumni event, with 23 men and 14 women signed up for a tire flip and sled pull showdown.

Alumni have responded in a big way this year, and she’s excited to have Brodie Henderson on board as the head referee for the student and alumni competitions. Henderson was a good friend to Bob Fitzsimmons, who founded Sardis Strongman and was the heart and soul of the event until he passed away in May of 2014.

“The alumni event is a fundraiser for the Bob Fitz Memorial Scholarship Fund,” said organizer Alison Fitzsimmons. “Two scholarships are given out every year to deserving students who value good academic standing, hard physical work and challenges of personal physical strength and fitness.”

Donations for the fund are accepted.
