Penticton Vees pummel Chilliwack Chiefs in game one

Penticton beat Chilliwack 6-1 to take game one of their BCHL Interior conference playoff series Friday night.

The Chilliwack Chiefs are down one game to none in their first round playoff series after dropping a 6-1 road decision in Penticton Friday night.

The Vees outscored the Chiefs 3-0 in the first period on goals by Troy Stecher, Steven Fogarty and Wade Murphy.

The goals were scored within a span of 3:52.

After a scoreless second period, Penticton added to their lead 49 seconds into the final frame on a shorthanded goal by Bryce Gervais.

Chilliwack's lone goal came 43 seconds later, a power play goal by Spencer Graboski, assisted by Trevor Hills.

Murphy and Gervais scored power play goals later in the period to wrap up the scoring.

Mitch Gillam faced 41 shots in the Chilliwack net.

Chad Katunar got the start for Penticton in place of injured starter Michael Garteig, facing 17 pucks.

The series resumes tonight at the South Okanagan Events Centre with a 7 p.m. puck drop.
