Chilliwack’s Pacific Coast Soccer League U-21 men’s team finally gets some home games after a road-heavy start to the 2012 season.
The local lads endured four straight road games out of the gate, going 2-1-1 in hostile territory.
They finally got a home game last Sunday, but it was against a tremendously tough opponent.
Facing the PCSL’s top team, the Kamloops Heat, Chilliwack dropped a 3-2 decision at Townsend Park.
The veteran Heat, loaded with experienced university-level talent, had the locals down 2-0 midway through the first half.
But Chilliwack’s Zenow Renaerts put some life into his squad, rifling a shot from 25 yards out to make it 2-1 at the break.
Renaerts and company pressed forward in the second half, but the search for the equalizer left them vulnerable at the back end, and Kamloops restored their lead on a free-kick tally.
Chilliwack scored late as Connor MacMillan converted a cross from striker Yen Westeringh.
But time ran out.
Chilliwack has this weekend off before settling into a stretch of four consecutive home games.
They host Victoria United (June 16), the Mid Isle Highlanders (June 17), the Penticton Pinnacles (June 23) and TSS Academy (June 27).
Chilliwack’s 2-2-1 record has them fifth in the seven team circuit.
