Pauls outstanding as Cascades take national crown

Chilliwack's Aaron Pauls helped the University of the Fraser Valley men's golf team win the CCAA National Championship.

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s and women’s golf teams both captured national titles Friday, winning the 2013 CCAA championship tournament at Quebec City's Royal Quebec Golf Club.

It is the first national title for either team.

It is the first time one school has captured both titles in the same year since the Humber College Hawks did it in 2007.

The men won the three-day tournament with a combined score of 863, 12 strokes better than the silver medalists and four time defending champions Hawks. The Pacwest Camosun College Chargers earned the bronze medal with a score of 881.

Fifteen teams participated.

UFV's daily scores were 283, 290 and 290, with wins on two of the three days. Until Camosun edged them in today's final round, the Cascade contingent had won every round they played this year.

Chilliwack's Aaron Pauls led the Cascades and finished second individually with a three-day score of 211.

Langley's Darren Whitehouse was one stroke behind, taking third.
