Orth stops 40 as midget Bruins blank T-Birds

The BC Major Midget Hockey League Fraser Valley Bruins took three of four points against the South Island Thunderbirds last weekend.

The Major Midget Hockey League Fraser Valley Bruins returned from a three week holiday hiatus to play two against South Island Thunderbirds last weekend.

The teams faced off Saturday at Abbotsford's MSA Arena, with the Bruins taking a 1-0 decision. Abby kid Jake Virtanen scored the lone goal for Fraser Valley, set up by Chilliwack natives Bradley King and Rylan Bechtel.

Alex Orth (Abbotsford) made 40 saves for the Bruins.

The Sunday morning rematch ended in a 3-3 draw. Fresh off his BCHL debut Friday night with the Chilliwack Chiefs, Abbotsford's Mitch Skapski set up two Fraser Valley goals by Matt Revel (Abbotsford) and Michel Holub (Mission). Mike Nolan (Aldergrove) also scored for the Bruins, who came out of the weekend with a record of 11-10-5.

Fraser Valley sits seventh in the 11 team league, heading into a pair of weekend games against the sixth place Okanagan Rockets (12-9-5).

Both games will be played at Planet Ice in Coquitlam.

The first goes Saturday at 5:45 p.m. with the Sunday rematch set for 3:45 p.m.
