GW Graham among favourites at senior boys basketball provincials

The Grizzlies head into the tournament at the Langley Events Centre as the third seed.

GW Graham’s senior boys basketball team starts their championship chase today at AAA provincials.

The Grizzlies hit the Langley Events Centre court as the No. 3 seed in the 16 team tourney, taking on No. 13 seed Ladysmith in their opener.

Tip off is at 4:30 p.m.

GW Graham shares one half of the bracket with No. 2 seed Vernon, and if everything sticks to script they’d clash in the semi-final round. Top seeded Duchess Park (Prince George) is on the other side of the bracket.

“We have worked hard all season and played a tough schedule that has tested our guys in every game. Our experience in close contested games is the best it has ever been and we believe it has set us up to make a run this week,” said GWG coach Jake Mouritzen. “The team is confident in our abilities and our goal is to enjoy each and every day as a family. We are focusing on each experience and not one ultimate goal. Win or lose we plan to represent GW Graham and the city of Chilliwack with sportsmanship, pride, passion and spirit.”

GWG’s senior girls b-ball team competed in AAA provincials, winning three of four games. Unfortunately, the one loss came in their opener versus Duchess Park, with the 68-58 setback knocking them out of title contention.

They bounced back with wins over Magee (69-51), Delta (56-44) and Vernon (75-62).
