Fraser Valley Thunderbirds battle Okanagan Rockets

The teams squared off in B.C. Major Midget Hockey League action in Abbotsford last weekend.

The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds split a pair of home games against the Okanagan Rockets last weekend in B.C. Major Midget Hockey League action.

Chilliwack’s Jackson Mainse had one of the T-Bird goals Saturday in a 4-3 win. Jacob Wright had two goals and an assist with Zackary Funk also scoring. John Lee had a three-assist night with Trey Taylor picking up a pair of helpers.

Mainse set up two goals in the Saturday rematch, a 5-3 loss.

The Thunderbirds dug themselves into a three-goal hole and never recovered.

Wright scored three and Fraser Valley trailed 4-3 through two periods, but the Rockets got the only goal of the final frame off the stick of Paul Hauk.

Through last weekend’s games, Mainse is the second-highest scoring defenceman in the 11 team league with four goals and 25 points in 25 games.

His Thunderbirds lead the league with a 20-4-1-1 record.

Other locals on the roster are forwards Gerrit Lindhout and Zack Feaver and head coach Peter Hay.
