Clay competes against Pacific Rim's best

Chilliwack native Zachary Clay tested himself against international competition at the Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships.

Chilliwack native Zachary Clay finished ninth all-round at the Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships, held in Everett, WA, last weekend.

The Sardis secondary school student trains and competes for Twisters Gymnastics in Abbotsford, but made this trip with the Canadian men's junior team.

More than 300 gymnasts competed, coming from Australia, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Thailand and the United States.

Clay's division included 24 athletes.

— The 17th Annual Twisters Invitational Competition starts Thursday at the Ag-Rec building in Abbotsford, with more than 650 Canadian gymnasts competing.

The competition continues throughout the weekend, with the last session starting at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
