Fresh off a second place finish at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour opener, Mitchell Thiessen looks to enjoy home-course advantage at this weekend’s Future Links Pacific Championship.
The Chilliwack Golf Club hosts Golf Canada’s first junior golf championship of the year.
“We are very pleased to open the 2017 championship season in Chilliwack,” said Susan White, Tournament Director and Senior Manager of Field Operations for B.C. Golf. “Chilliwack Golf Club is in tremendous shape and we look forward to seeing this strong field of juniors challenge the course.”
Thiessen, a Sardis secondary student, will join a field of 87 in the junior boys’ division. The top six earn exemptions into the 2017 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, being played July 31 to Aug. 3 at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club in Kingston, ON.
A tie for the sixth position will be decided by a playoff following the conclusion of play.
The junior girls’ division includes 33 golfers vying for entry into the 2017 Canadian Junior Girls Championship, being held Aug. 1-4 at the Camelot Golf and Country Club in Cumberland, ON.
Canadian LPGA Tour star Brooke Henderson won this tournament in 2013.
The 54-hole stroke play tournament begins with a practice round today (Thursday) followed by round one on Friday.
