Chilliwack’s Chief Wannawin retiring from the mascot life

More more than 20 years he’s fired up fans at Chiefs games, but his run comes to an end Sept. 15.

Chief Wannawin, the mascot of the Chilliwack Chiefs for more than two decades, is calling it a career.

Chilliwack’s home opener vs Langley on Sept. 15 will mark Wannawin’s final appearance at Prospera Centre

Debuting in the mid 1990’s, Wannawin has attended nearly every Chiefs home game and traveled with the team to two Royal Bank Cup tournaments, 2000 in Fort McMurray and 2002 in Halifax.

Wannawin has represented the Chiefs at hundreds of community events, and has been a favourite of Chilliwack children.

Several ‘face-lifts’ over the years have helped him maintain his youthful and energetic appearance, but time has taken its toll.

A new mascot will take his place, debuting Oct. 6 at Prospera Centre when the Chiefs host the Wenatchee Wild.
