Chilliwack Stingrays make waves at Regionals

Several local swimmers have punched their ticket to provincials, taking place this weekend in Nanaimo.

Chilliwack’s Stingrays Summer Swim Club competed in the Regional Swim Meet, held the first weekend of August in Abbotsford.

The three-day event was held at the outdoor Centennial Pool, providing a blistering backdrop for the swimmers.

Several Stingrays earned top three finishes, qualifying for provincials.

Katharine Van der Veen did so with a gold medal performance in the division six 50 metre freestyle. Hers was the only first place finish, but several Stingrays scored silver.

Graeson Lounsbury (division five) finished second in the 100m fly and third in the 50m fly.

The division two girls medley relay team of Sydney Owens, Olivia Lounsbury, Mackenzie Campbell and Megan Owens earned silver, as did the division five team of Bekky Clemons, Catharine Janzen, Sadie Sandve and Tianna Thiessen.

That team also earned bronze in the freestyle relay.

Two boys teams did the same in freestyle relay. The division four team included Keefer Sandve, Wesley Symons, Rowan Quadling and Weston Johnsrude.

The division seven team included Graeson Lounsbury, Linden Symons, Riley Clemons and Brett Woodske.

Brett Woodske (division seven) added bronze in the 50m fly and 100m freestyle.

Sarah Woodske (division eight) finished third in the 50m fly and 100m backstroke. Kennedy Campbell  (division one) finished third in the 100m freestyle and Kendal French  (division three) finished third in the 100m freestyle.

Sydney Owens (division two) was third in the 50m backstroke and Mackenzie Campbell (division two) 50m fly.

Provincials are Aug. 17-18 in Nanaimo.
