The Chilliwack Centre of Excellence (CCE) paddling club sent two athletes to Canoe Kayak Canada (CKC) team selection races which were held May 13-14 in Kannanaskis, AB. Nathan Christensen competed in the U23 category and was nominated to the CKC U23 team in both slalom and kayak cross. He will head to Poland in August to compete in these events at the Junior/U23 World Championships in Krakow.
Meanwhile, Michal Smiesko competed at the trials in the U14 category and won three of four slalom races.
“The club is very proud of the performance of both of these young men,” said CCE vice president Tanya Rankin.
The CCE is a non-profit paddling club based in the Cultus Lake and the Chilliwack River Valley area. They offer instruction for adults and youth in flatwater, whitewater, and competitive slalom racing. They train all levels of paddlers from complete beginners to Olympic athletes.
