Chilliwack Chiefs head coach Harvey Smyl named the four man group that will wear letters for the 2011-12 team.
As expected, veteran defenceman Tyler Miller gets the captain’s C.
Miller played for Smyl in Langley last year and was re-acquired by Smyl in an off-season trade. The 20-year-old Prince George native enters his fourth full BCHL season after spending time with Langley, Prince George, Westside and Quesnel.
“Tyler knows what the program’s all about, knows how we’ve done it in the past and how we’re going to present it in the community,” Smyl said. “He has a pretty good idea about the Chiefs family.”
Chilliwack native Josh Hansen will get one of three alternate A’s.
Hansen was another offseason acquisition of Smyl from his former team in Langley.
Hansen was the rookie of the year last year for the Chiefs-now-Rivermen, and brings quiet leadership and an industrious work ethic to the team.
“Growing up in Chilliwack, Josh certainly knows what the Chiefs family is all about,” Smyl said.
Philadelphia native David Thompson is another alternate.
The 18-year-old enters his second full season in the BCHL, providing toughness and a whatever-it-takes-to-win attitude.
Twenty-year-old Michael Spring is the final alternate.
The veteran enters his second full BCHL season after previous stops in Quesnel (50 games in 2010-11) and Trail (five games between 2008-10).
