Britz blitz lands Chilliwackians in B.C. U-18 Curling Championship

Madeline Britz and Everly Royea will compete in the newly minted tournament featuring B.C.'s top teenage curlers.

Two Chilliwackians will compete in the first ever 2017 B.C. U-18 Curling Championships.

Everly Royea and Madeline Britz curl on Team Drexel, which is skipped by Coquitlam native Heather Drexel and also includes Langley native Bailey Burke.

Their quartet qualified with an A bracket win last weekend at a Lower Mainland playdown at the Mission Granite Curling Club.

The BC U-18 Curling Championships, for curlers 17 and under as of June 30, 2016, take place Mar. 16-19 at the Nanaimo Curling Centre.

These championships were previously for those 16 and under.

It was called the Juvenile Curling Championships, and winners advanced to the Optimists International U-18 Curling event (which featured teams from several provinces as well as places like the USA and Japan).

Now it’s a U-18 event and B.C.’s winners will move on to compete in the first-ever Canadian U-18 Curling Championships, featuring fourteen teams from all provinces and territories (including two from Ontario).

That tournament runs April 17-22 in Moncton, NB.
