Big venue battle as Cascades host Spartans

The University of Fraser Valley Cascades will host the Trinity Western Spartans at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

The University of the Fraser Valley's men's and women's basketball teams will host the Trinity Western Spartans in a pair of big-venue games this weekend.

Both games will be played at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, a 7,000 seat arena that is home to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Heat.

The women's game tips off at 5 p.m. followed immediately by the men at 7 p.m.

“When the Cascades take on the Spartans in basketball, the tremendous energy and school spirit shown by the fans reflects the pride we have in our teams,” said Dr. Mark Evered, president and vice-chancellor of UFV. “We look forward to sharing that experience on a much larger scale at the AESC.”

Tickets for the general public are $15 each. There will be two student fan zones located behind both baskets, with these tickets being offered to the student body at both schools. Capacity will be approximately 40 people per end zone and the cost will be $20, including a souvenir AESC Basketball t-shirt.

AESC will be offering boxes to watch the doubleheaders at a cost of $750, which will include 10 tickets and food.

UFV is following in the footsteps of the University of Ontario Gee Gees and Carleton University Ravens.

Those programs have played regular season showcase games at Scotiabank Place, home of the National Hockey League's Ottawa Senators.
