BCHL extra: Smokies D-man joins Continentals

Trail Smoke Eaters grad Bennett Hambrook will play NCAA division-three hockey in New York, committing to Hamilton College.

Trail Smoke Eaters defenceman Bennett Hambrook has signed on with the Hamilton College Continentals, and will play NCAA division-three hockey this fall.

Hamilton College is located in Clinton, New York.

The Continentals play in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), facing off against the likes of

Bowdoin College, Middlebury College and Williams College.

Hambrook, a native of Kimberley, BC, joined the Smoke Eaters early last season through a trade with Salmon Arm.

The 21-year-old began his BCHL career in Trail in 2009-10 before moving on to Prince George, Vernon and then the Silverbacks.

The six-foot and 190-pound defenceman posted one goal goal and 10 assists in 29 games upon returning to Trail.

In 135 career BCHL games, the hard-nosed blueliner had four goals, 14 assists and 183 penalty minutes. At Hamilton College, Hambrook joins a roster that features many other junior A hockey alums, but no BCHLers.
