As fast as they moved up the rankings last week, the Powell River Kings plummeted down them this week.
The Canadian Junior Hockey League released its weekly top-20 Monday, with the Island division leaders dropping seven spots, from eight to 15.
Back to back weekend losses were to blame. Powell River fell 4-3 in overtime to Nanaimo on Saturday, then lost 6-4 to the lowly Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Sunday.
The Kings can take solace knowing their .707 win percentage is still tops in the BCHL.
Two teams found themselves heading in the opposite direction, rocketing up the rankings. The Langley Rivermen moved up eight spots, from 18 to 10. After beating Chilliwack in overtime Friday, the Rivermen picked up a point in a 2-2 tie with Cowichan Valley Saturday. They finished the weekend with a big win over Victoria, taking a 2-1 decision.
The Penticton Vees got back on the winning track, going from not-ranked to No. 11 on the strength of two lopsided weekend wins. A 5-2 victory over cellar-dwelling Trail wasn't impressive, but a 6-1 dismantling of Vernon was.
The Vees demolished this year's Royal Bank Cup hosts Friday night, and did so in Vernon's barn.
An Alberta Junior Hockey League team holds down top spot in the CJHL rankings. The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are followed by the Soo Thunderbirds (North Ontario Junior Hockey League) and Selkirk Steelers (Manitoba).
