LETTER: So many selfless acts from neighbours in recent days

There are so many people that have become amazing neighbours, and selflessly did so much to assist those in need during this difficult time for many in the Fraser Valley and in Chilliwack. I wanted to bring some much-earned recognition to a group of amazing people that went way above and beyond helping people in our community.

The guys from Iron Horse Mechanical (on Railway Avenue in Chilliwack) along with the guys from Downrite Drilling (Aitken Road in Chilliwack) were all assisting those that needed help. My mother lives at Lindell Beach at Cultus Lake, where we were trapped for several days after visiting on the weekend. We were trapped while the lake rose by more than three feet, flooding out our neighbours and coming within three inches of breaching and flooding our house. We desperately tried to find any local sandbags, but there were none to be had. The roads were blocked for several days with many landslides and washouts on the road around the lake.

The moment the road was made passable to Chilliwack, this team just showed up, offering to help our neighbours and us with a truck of sand, and hundreds of sandbags. A Bobcat was used to surround our neighbour’s house with sandbags, and to protect our vulnerable back door with sandbags, protecting us from rising waters.

My brother, who lives in Sardis, was volunteering with his boys at Townsend Park and in Yarrow to help save homes.

At both locations, they also came across some of the Iron Horse Mechanical team, selflessly working hard to help. When the water receded at Lindell Beach, the team came back, collected all the sandbags and took them to assist people at Leisure Valley, near Lindell Beach, where they still needed help.

This is a shout out to the Iron Horse Mechanical team for their selfless efforts to help those who needed it in our communities. Here is our hope that your actions will affect a pay-it-forward type response that positively brings benefit back to all of you and your company.

You are greatly appreciated.
