Whitford Eckert

April 23, 2020

July 22, 1926 - April 23, 2020
In these times of Covid 19, we are celebrating the life of our Loved One, Whitford Eckert, in our hearts. Born in Russia and forced to flee to Canada in 1928, Whit spent his early years in northern Alberta.
In 1951, Whit and his wife Alma moved to Chilliwack with their baby son, Ron. Whit took up the trade of construction and built over 50 custom made homes (you may be lucky enough to live in one of them), as well as several commercial buildings in this community.
Whit and Alma along with their younger son Bruce, left Canada in 1976, and took up residence in Oak Harbour, Wash., then moved to Anacortez. For the next 20 years he built commercial buildings in these two cities. Whit was hard-working, and had the respect of his peers for his integrity, amazing workmanship, and vision for possibilities in the building trades.
Retirement from his life's work, began in Mt Vernon for a few years and then for an additional 25 years in Abbotsford, BC. "Snowbird" trips to Arizona each year made life fulfilling.
Whit is survived by Alma, his wife of 72 years, sons, Ron, of Abbotsford, and Bruce (Janet) of Spokane, granddaughter, Lauren, brother, Fred, of Chilliwack, sister, Violet, of Edmonton, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, brother, Ervin, brother-in-law, Art, sisters- in-law, Ruth and June, and three nephews.
There will be no service of Remembrance. This Obituary and more details of Whit's commendable life may be read online at www.hendersonsfunerals.com. Abbotsford. No flowers by request. If you wish to donate to a Charity of your choice in honour of Whit, that would be greatly appreciated.
Alma, Ron, and Bruce would like to thank all the many doctors and Abbotsford Regional Hospital staff who cared for their loved one.
