April 22, 1930 - April 22, 2021
On April 22nd 2021, Thelma Dorothy Harris (nee Murray), loving wife to Hugh and mother of 2, left us peacefully on her 91st birthday at Menno Place Hospital, Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.
Thelma grew up at 22 Market St. in Widnes, England the eldest of six siblings; Gordon, Neville, Keith, Cynthia, Victor and Rodney and although she lived in Canada for many years, Widnes was her home.
Early life was especially hard for a large family during WW2, made even more difficult when Thelma's father, George passed away suddenly in 1947. Thelma, then 17 had to make the abrupt transition to help raise a young family, five of them under the age of 12.
This enduring resilience never faded throughout Thelma's life, but she shaped it into kindness, and compassion. Her love of fashion and singing was also a thread that ran through her life- be it in St Paul's choir or serenading her two children at home.
In 1981, Thelma moved with her family to Canada, where they lived in Ontario, finally settling in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
Thelma is survived by her two children, Jane and Nicholas and daughter-in-law Ingrid.
Due to COVID travel and gathering restrictions, a private ceremony for family members will be held later in the year at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Thelma to the Menno Place Hospital in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. www.mennoplace.ca/gratitude-legacy
