Ruth Belinski arrived in the beautiful Fraser Valley in 1947 and lived a happy and successful life until she died on November 6, 2011. Born Ruth Eleanor Lang in Poplar Point, Manitoba, (March 23, 1922), she was the second youngest of seven children of Wesley and Jane (Brown). Ruth married her childhood sweetheart, Walt Belinski in 1942 and they happily settled in Chilliwack raising daughter, Judi and son, Rod.

Ruth was a sports enthusiast – she ran, played softball and curled – as well as supporting her children’s sports. Known for her amazing energy, she worked at Chilliwack General Hospital, in SuperValu, she and Walt owned a Laundromat, a small retail shop and Southgate Restaurant; at age 60, she took the real estate course and worked at Royal Lepage. She loved to cook, read, sew and knit and her family benefited from her talents. She had an insatiably curious mind, was a good writer and enjoyed the company of people of all ages. She was a caring person who contributed to the community.

Ruth is predeceased by Walt, her siblings and her son-in-law, Tom Lees; her smile and loving attitude will be missed by her family: Judi, Rod (Geordie), grandchildren Marnie (Craig), Trisha (Dave), Jennifer, Laura and Scott; great-grandchildren, Ben, Madeleine, Rowan and Bronwyn, as well as by Diane, Wendy, Jane, Floyd and other relatives and friends who kept in close touch with her.

The family thanks the Birchwood staff, Chilliwack Hospital palliative ward, Cascade Hospice and Dr. Hirst. Please make a donation to your favourite charity in honour of Ruth.

A Celebration of Life will be held near her birthday in March, 2012. Please contact judilees@dccnet.com if you wish to attend.
