Ronald Eric Atkins

July 20, 1940 - February 1, 2020
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband and father, Ronald Eric Atkins on February 1, 2020, with his family at his side. Ron was born on July 20, 1940 in Chilliwack, B.C. to his parents Eric and Rena Atkins. His father owned and operated Atkins Stage Lines, which Ron drove bus for many years throughout the Lower Mainland.
In 1964 he married the love of his life, Dana Mumford, and raised their two children, Steve and Toni Lynne where they resided in Chilliwack most of their married life. For many years, Ron was involved in the poultry business and in real estate the ten years before he retired.
Ron was a devoted member of the Chilliwack Kiwanis Club for over 40 years, and he was President twice, always giving a helping hand to the community where needed. He bowled for many years and even scored a perfect game. Ron had many passions to keep his heart full. He loved the outdoors, especially travel and fishing. They camped for many years at their favourite spot, Hyas Lake, where the fishing was good and the beers were cold. After they both retired, they sold the family home and travelled full time in their 5th wheel. Canada, Yukon, and the U.S were amongst their travels, but the
winters in Mexico were always their favourite destination in the winter. And lets not forget the tequila!
Ron was a family man. He loved all his grandchildren and great ones, and always had a smile and a lap to sit on. He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humour, tall tales and his kind and infectious spirit.
Ron was predeceased by his father Eric, mother, Rena, and his brothers Ray, Robert and Tom, his grandson Taylor, brother in-laws, Steve Tarr and Paul Mumford and sister-in-law Sheri. Heis survived by his loving wife, Dana, of 55 years, son Steve, daughter Toni Lynne (Patrick), Four grandchildren, Colton (Tina) Payton, Chelsea, and Courtney (Cody) Four great grandchildren, Maddison, Mikenna, Wyatt and Ashton. Sisters Joanne and Margaret (Brian) plus many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Many warm thanks to the staff at VGH CCICU and to Dr. Charlene Krakower and the caring staff at 3N at Chilliwack General hospital.
A celebration of life will be on Saturday March 28th at 1 pm at Surestay (Best Western).
