“Bob”

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robert John Burleigh in the Penticton Hospital on April 27, 2008 with his family by his side.

Bob was born on November 2, 1921 in Islington, ON where he spent his childhood.

He was a career soldier, serving our country in WWII, in Italy and Holland as well as being a peacekeeper in Eygpt in 1956/57. Bob was a member of the RCASC and then worked as a civilian until his retirement at CFB Chilliwack.

Bob and his wife Betty retired to Okanagan Falls and then Penticton.

He was sadly predeceased by his wife, Betty in 2007; his parents; brother, Don; and sister, Joan all of Ontario.

Bob is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his daughters: Janice Burleigh of Surrey, Judy (Rod) Kindred of Chilliwack and Christine Butler of Okanagan Falls; his sisters: Edna, Noma and Ellen all of Ontario; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

‘If we cannot do his honour while he’s here to hear the praise,

Then at least let’s give him homage at the ending of his days.

Perhaps just a simple headline in a paper it could say,

Our country is in mourning, for a soldier died today.’

Visitation for Bob will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. from the Penticton Funeral Chapel, 501 Winnipeg Street, Penticton with a memorial service being held from the chapel on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Padre John Briscall officiating.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes can be directed to the Poppy Fund, c/o Okanagan Falls Legion, Box 327, Okanagan Falls, V0H 1R0 or charity of donor’s choice.

Funeral arrangements entrust–ed to the care of Providence Funeral Homes. Condolences may be directed to the family: pfchapel@vip.net.
