Oscar Donald (John) JOHNSON

January 16, 2007

Master Warrant Officer (Retired)

October 3, 1926 ~ January 16, 2007

Dad passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers disease.

John was predeceased by his loving wife Freda, who passed away in August, 2005.

He is survived by his two daughters: Gail Johnson of Chilliwack and Cheryl (Rick) Bumphrey of Calgary; his two grandchildren, Kevin and Kelly, also of Calgary; sister, Gladys (Doug) Gibson of Delta; brother, Delbert (Ruby) Jolly of Boyle, Alberta; sister-in-law Ruth McKay of Chilliwack and numerous nieces and nephews.

John served for over 25 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and retired in Calgary with the rank of Master Warrant Officer in 1970. He and Freda then relocated to Chilliwack and started his second career with Ted’s Mobile Homes. He was also active with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4 including a term as president.

Dad volunteered countless hours to Heritage Village from the time it first opened until he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1998. Another place he could be found would be fishing along the Vedder and Fraser Rivers in all kinds of weather.

Gramps’ spirit will always remain in the hearts and thoughts of his grandchildren in Calgary, Kevin and Kelly, who both have countless memories of summer camping trips in the motor home, especially Gramps’ ability to keep everyone laughing during the fiercest thunderstorms. We will never forget the love, lessons and support that Gramps provided throughout our lives.

The family would like to thank the Bradley Center for the wonderful care they provided Dad over the years. A family service will be held in the spring in Waskatenau, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in John’s name directly to the Alzheimers Society of BC, 9292 Corbould St. Chilliwack, BC V2P 4A6, 604-702-4603.
