August 23, 1950 - September 24, 2020
Our hearts were broken on September 24, 2020, when our precious and loving mother, sister, gran, aunt and friend passed away in Chilliwack, BC after a brief and fearless battle with cancer, her daughter and son at her side.
On her final day all six of her children were able to surround her, showering her with love together one final time. Melinda loved her family fiercely and as the heart of our family we are inconsolably broken without her.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren; Heather (Kevin; Emma, David, Colin), Lindsay Mark; Samantha, Jacinta), Marty (Sheilah; Brea, Marisol), Kate (Morgan; Hope) Sian (Nicole; Roan) and Patricia (Ivy).
She is predeceased by her precious granddaughter, Ivy; her parents, Michael and Dorothy Bungay; and brother in law Larry Scott Hurley.
One of nine siblings, Melinda is deeply loved and is survived by her 6 sisters and 2 brothers; Marie (Louis), Edna (Bill), Jeannie (Harold), Sam (Lila), Grace (Wayne),Michael (Diane), Patricia (Ivan), and Dottie (Larry) and leaves behind an enormous legacy of unconditional love for all her nieces and nephews.
Mom worked at St. Mary's School as an Education Assistant for more than 30 years, amassing a countless list of friends, students, colleagues and people who loved her. Her radiant personality was impossible to not love as she made everyone around her laugh and see the funny side of life at every turn; she is the funniest person we know.
Melinda was born in Lourdes, Newfoundland on August 23, 1950. As a proud Newfoundlander, Melinda practiced endearing hospitality. Our mom had a gift for making anyone she met feel comfortable, welcomed and included.
She was generous and kind and truly cared about others. She will be remembered for her love of life, music, trivia, friendship and family. She will be missed dearly.

Our family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff at Chilliwack General Hospital who so compassionately cared for our mother.
