In loving memory ~
Marlene Nash, age 79, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2022 at the Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack, BC, following a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Marlene is survived by her loving husband Bill (59 years) two daughters Lori and Kelli (Pat), and three grandchildren Dominique (Andrew), Emma (Jared), and Andrew (Shannon).
She was born in Creston, BC on August 20, 1943, an only child to Michael and Leona Cherbo. From a young age, Marlene was a strong, independent person who always set high goals and standards for herself. She found her soul mate and partner for life at the age of 19, when she married Bill Nash of nearby Kimberley, BC. Together they moved to the Coast and for the next 59 years, enjoyed life to the fullest.
Marlene had a long, successful career working for the Correctional Services of Canada. She carved out a role for women over her career when there were few women in the service in supervisory or management positions. She started at the Agassiz Correctional Work Camp (ACWC) as a term secretary (first female employee). Other positions included Clerk to the Director and Administration & Supply Officer. Following the closure of ACWC, she worked at Kent Maximum Institution as the Supervisor of Institutional Services, Assistant Warden Technical Services and Assistant Warden Management Services & Programs. She transferred to the Regional Health Centre in Abbotsford and retired as the Director Management Services. In 2002, she was nominated and received an International Women's Day Award, recognizing a Woman Making a Difference in the Federal Public Service.
Following retirement, she continued giving back to her community by sharing her journey and holding positions on several committees, most notably the Canadian Cancer Society and the Spirit Abreast Dragon Boat Team.
When she wasn't working or attending meetings, she enjoyed spending time in her home and working in the garden. She loved to travel, curl, golf, dragon boat, and was highly skilled with knitting needles. Marlene and Bill both enjoyed entertaining and hosted many parties and events in their home.
Most of all she loved her family and was very closely connected with her children and grandchildren instilling strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Special thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Cascade Hospice, particularly nurse Marla who Mom called an Angel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Chilliwack Hospice.
A celebration of Marlene's life will be held on October 8, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Chilliwack Curling Club, 45550 Spadina Avenue, Chilliwack, BC.
