June 1, 1942 - March 28, 2022
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of June Margaret Harley. June passed away on March 28, 2022 at age 79. She was born on June 1, 1942 in Edinburgh Scotland. June is survived by Charles, her loving husband of 59 years, daughters Tracy (Tanya), Julia and Jennifer (Mark). Her grandchildren, Stewart (Jen), Beth (Steve), Cassandra (Alex), Sam (Bronwyn), Nicholas and Ethan. June had four great- grandchildren, Oliver, Carter, Rosie and Ivy. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Margaret Sykes and brother Ronnie, as well as son-in-law Rick (Julia).
June had wonderful happy memories of her childhood and life growing up in Edinburgh. In her younger years, June could be found playing at the burn, making paper dolls, sketching or knitting with her Mum. She loved to spend time at the seaside and had fond memories of trips to the beach and visiting family in Burnt Island. June met lifelong friends at work and they went to the pictures and to the dancing on a Saturday night; this is how she met her husband Charlie at The Cavendish.
Despite being stood up by June on their first date (a dizzy), June and Charlie were soon married and started their adventures together. Many happy memories were made, filled with laughter and joy.
Although Scotland would always be home, they moved their young family to Canada, where the brought up their three daughters. June was known for picking flowers at the side of the road, weekends at the flee market and winning dart competitions with the neighbours. June spent many hours in the garden, knitting for the grandchildren and adding to her collection of beautiful sketches and paintings. But, foremost she was a dedicated and loving mother, who especially loved her role as grandmother and great- grandmother. She touched all of our lives with love and will be remembered by family and friends as a warm, kind, loving and talented wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, auntie, sister-in-law, and friend.
On behalf of the family, we would like to extend a huge thank you to all the doctors and nurses who cared for and treated June with such thoughtfulness and care. To the Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack, we are forever grateful for the nurses and other staff who showed great compassion and support to June and the family. June faced her illness with dignity, strength and courage.
We will be holding a Celebration Of Life, for family only in honour of June, on April 17th, 2022.
A donation will be made to the cancer foundation for leukemia. Fond memories can be shared at www.hendersonsfuneral.com
