Joy Mary Nelson (nee McCormack)

July 18, 1926 - February 19, 2023
With great sadness we announce the passing of Joy Nelson on February 19, 2023 at Eden Care Centre in Chilliwack, BC, she was 96 years old. Joy was born on July 18, 1926 in Vancouver BC and moved to Chilliwack after marrying her husband Ray, she worked for 5 years for Dr. Wilson, after which she stayed at home to raise their 4 children.
Ray and Joy attended the United Church and were members of the Mariner Club. They enjoyed time away together at Harrison Hot Springs Resort and upon Ray's death, she continued the tradition of time there with her friends and her grandchildren during their spring break.
She joined the Sweet Adelines singing group, the Eight of Hearts singing group and the Chilliwack Festival Chorus. As well, she kept very active with the Chilliwack Hiking Club and enjoyed both line and square dancing at the Chilliwack Senior's Centre.
Joy loved to travel and went to many countries around the world. Since she was a very young girl, she spent summers at Cultus Lake, a place she was very fond of.
Joy is survived by her loving family; sons Larry Nelson, Dale (Cheryl) Nelson, and Wayne (Gaye) Nelson; grandchildren Kristen (Matt) Sundset, Jennifer (Brian) Zdril, Landon (Moriah) Nelson; great-grandchildren Scarlet Sundset, Hazel Sundset, McKenna Zdril, and Zachary Zdril; and son-in-law Robert Boyd.
She is predeceased by her husband Raymond Lawrence Nelson and her daughter Gayle Elizabeth Boyd.
The family would like to thank Dr. Donnelly and all the staff and volunteers for the wonderful care she received at Eden Care Centre.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.
Funeral Service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, March 11th at Henderson's Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack. Reception to follow.
