nee Abrams

Joy peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends in Chilliwack on May 20, 2013 at the age of 87 years old. She was born on April 22, 1926 in New Westminster, B.C.

Joy is predeceased by her husband Laurence Fortin and her brothers, Stan, Ralph and Howard Abrams. She is survived by her brother Don Abrams, children Diane (Don) Catt, Charlie (Cecelia) Fortin, Jeff (Shauna) Fortin, grandchildren Sarah (Sebastien), Jenna (Justin), Stephen, Daniel (Stefanie), Graham, Sean and Catherine, great grandchildren Emilie and Elise, sisters-in-law Yvonne (Lou) Hamel and Delphine Fortin and dear friend Nancy Royal.

Whenever visiting Joy in sunny Sardis you’d be promptly offered one of her famous peanut butter and marshmallow squares, slice of home-made pumpkin pie or a warm cup of tea (unless you’d prefer Ovaltine). While you caught up, she might have put on some big band music. Perhaps something musician Laurence performed for Joy when the two first met. If you faintly heard CKNW 980 outside her door, no need to knock, Joy was probably at Cultus Lake. Maybe out for a swim, game of cribbage or stroll to Sunnyside. One of Joy’s motto’s was to “travel when you’re young” and she did just that with her family and close friends that created many wonderful memories over the years. She has the slides to prove it.

The family is thankful for the exceptional care from Dr. Mark MacKenzie, as well as the staff at Valley Haven and Hampton House.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Carmen United Church, 7258 Vedder Road Chilliwack. A Reception to follow the Service in the church hall.
