John Dalkeith Herbert

November 10, 1938 ~ December 29, 2016

Born in Morris, Manitoba and moved to a farm near Steinbach in 1941. He left home at age 14 living with his sister Dorothy in Morris. Moved to and worked in Winnipeg from age fifteen to seventeen, spent 1 ½ years in the Signal Corps, met Betty Thomas and then worked in the goldmines in Pickle Crow, Ontario from 1956 – 58. He returned to Winnipeg working as a truck driver, married Betty and had two sons. He accepted Christ as his Savior on Sept. 26, 1965. The family moved to Chilliwack in January 1967. At first, he drove truck for Rogers & Boyd Feeds then bought his own truck and was a driver/ salesman for Kel-Tone Cleaners for 10 years covering the territory from Chilliwack to Spences Bridge. In 1977 he drove a feed truck for a local feed mill for 23 years and then moved on to long haul transport for Pannu Trucking and Arnold Bros. Transport. He also drove truck and bus for DeVry Greenhouses for 2 seasons. He served as assistant Chaplain at Transport for Christ in Chilliwack. Herb also coached minor baseball for 16 years, minor hockey for 10 and played Old-timers hockey for 30 years. He enjoyed camping with his family and explored many campgrounds throughout B.C and the U.S. Herb was predeceased by mother Agatha Drews (Chilliwack, BC), his father Albert, his brother Charles and sister Alma (Leamington, ON). He is survived by his wife Betty, sons Wayne and Dale (Joanne), grandsons Dale (Jill) and Ricky (Christi), great grandchildren Ethan and Maddi; Klaya and Callie; sisters Dorothy Rempel (Morris, MB), brother Fred (Judy) Aldergrove, BC plus nieces and nephews and a host of friends. “I’ll be waiting for you at the Eastern Gate. See you there!” Celebration of life will be held on January 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. @ the Cross Connection Church 9310 Williams St, Chilliwack, BC.
