Jerome (Jerry) HERLE

Jerry Herle passed away peacefully on April 8, 2005 at Chilliwack General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 4, 1941 in Saskatchewan, grew up in Alberta, and moved to B.C. in 1967. He was a transport truck driver and heavy duty mechanic. Most recently, Jerry was working at CFB Chilliwack as a mechanic until 1990, when he was forced to retire due to ill health.

Family was the most important thing to Jerry, and he was always willing to help his family and friends. he loved a good time around the campfire with loved ones. Jerry loved hunting and camping, playing his guitar, watching a good hockey game, or western movie on TV, and fixing vehicles and everything else around the house.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 24 years, Karen; their four children, Glenn (Karla) Smith, Lee-Ann (John), Angela (Craig), and Brad; and his grandchildren, Justin, Meghan, Mekenna, and Keeli. He also leaves behind sisters, Ann Kuefler, Elsie Herle, Isabelle (Joe) Blatz, Irene (Ted) Walden, and Hilda (Denis) Wunderlich; and brothers, John (Marg) Herle, Frank (Doreen) Herle, and George (Fay) Herle; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Aloysius and Margaret Herle; sister Lena (Hauser); and brother Jack Herle.

A special thanks to all the nurses in palliative care that looked after Jerry in his final days.

Prayers will be held Wednesday, Apr. 13, 2005 at 6 p.m., and Funeral Mass Thursday, Apr. 14, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Mary St. in Chilliwack. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dale Friesen, Dale Sabo, Paul Braun, Bud Scott, Dave Young, and George Herle.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
