(1921-2012)

Jean Minter (née Bugera) passed away peacefully on June 17, 2012 at the age of 90.

Predeceased by her husband, Glen, Jean is lovingly remembered by daughters: Margaret Ann (Bud) and Barbara (Bill); her grandsons: Michael (Robyn) and David; and her great-grandson: Henry Glen. She is survived by her sisters: Alexandra and Betty.

Jean was born in Ethelbert, Manitoba, the fifth daughter in a family of six. Her family moved to Schumacher, Ontario where her father worked in the mines. Jean graduated with honours from high school and went on to train as a nurse at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. After graduation in 1945, Jean nursed in Timmins, Winnipeg, and Nelson before moving to Chilliwack in 1948.

She met and married Glen Minter in 1950 and they had two daughters. After Glen’s sudden death in 1964, Jean returned to nursing at the Chilliwack General Hospital. She took time out to study public health nursing at UBC in 1968 then returned to work on a variety of floors at the hospital.

Jean instilled her love of learning and travel in her daughters. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.

The Rev. Elizabeth Piwowar of St. Michael’s Anglican Church in Canmore Alberta officiated at a family graveside service in Chilliwack.

Friends wishing to remember Jean may make donations to the Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven, 49843 Chilliwack Central Rd, Chilliwack BC V2P 6H3 or www.thesafehaven.ca where her companion cat, Jezebel, has found a happy home.
