Jean Elizabeth PURKIS

OCT. 24, 1914 – SEPT. 14, 2007

Jean passed away after a brief stay at Chilliwack General Hospital. Jean will be loved and remembered by her daughter, Beth; her brother and sister-in-law, Jim & Betty; her sister, Isabel; her granddaughter & daughter-in-law, Jessica & Carol, and her many cousins in Nova Scotia, Oregon, & Massachusetts. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Len and son, Neil; sisters, Gwen & Silvia; brother, Alec.

Jean was born 12 miles southeast of Weyburn Saskatchewan. Jean was the 1st child of Elizabeth (Fairman) & James Joseph MacPherson. She went to rural schools and graduated from Weyburn Collegiate. Jean worked in Saskatoon and Winnipeg for the Bay and the Darling Hat Shops. It was in Winnipeg she met and married Len Perkis. Len and Jean moved to Vancouver in 1951. Although the family always came first, Jean worked part-time for Woodward’s at Park Royal and Oakridge. Jean and Len retired to country life in Chilliwack where Jean worked at Sears for a short time, and finally got to do her quilting with the creations at the Red Cross until her health began to fail.

Service will be held on Wednesday, September 19th at 1:00 p.m. at Henderson’s Funeral Home. Father Fred Tassinari officiating. If friends wish, a memorial donation to World Vision would be gratefully accepted in lieu of flowers.
