James (Jim) Everett went to be with his Lord and beloved wife Dee, February 25, 2003. Jim was born in Milton, Ont. on October 7, 1929.
He was predeceased by his wife Delia Whetham April 1977; and his grandson Eric Whetham November 1994.
He is survived by his son Bryan Whetham of Grand Forks; daughter Shawn (Bob) Siak of Langley; brothers and sisters in Ontario; eight grandchildren, Jenny (Jim) McLaughlin, Megan (Mike) Visser, Erin and Ashley Whetham, Jeff (Helene) Magnusson, Krista Magnusson, Jeff (Leslie) Siak, and Ken (Shannon) Siak; seven great-grandchildren, Haley and James McLaughlin, Haven Visser, Aiesha, Courtland, Cierra and Ryley Siak; and also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Rick (Lisa) Whetham, and Sandy Whetham.
Jim’s gift was in sharing with and caring for everyone he met. A dedicated Salvation Army Soldier, he could always be counted on at the Care and Share Centre, the Soup Kitchen, driving the bus and annually manning the Kettle outside the Chilliwack Liquor Store. Jim and Dee were also known for their friendliness and service at the Whetham Stop ‘n’ Shop in Rosedale, which they owned and operated for many years. His joy in life came from his family and helping others. He will be greatly missed by family and all those whose lives he touched during his 36 years in Chilliwack.
Jim loved cycling and could often be seen throughout the area with his Australian Shepherd dog, Ky at this side.
A memorial service to be held at the Salvation Army Church, 46420 Brooks Ave., Chilliwack, Friday, Feb. 28, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. Major Don Law officiating.
Growing up in the depression, the oldest boy of 11 children, Jim always worried about people having plenty to eat. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, a donation in Jim’s memory may be made directly to the Salvation Army Care and Share Centre, 45746 Yale Rd., Chilliwack.
