July 16, 1924 - August 22, 2018
Iris passed away in Burnaby General Hospital after a brief illness, having enjoyed good health all her life. She was predeceased by her husband John (Jack), sisters Dorothy and Grace and brothers Bruce, George and Tom. She is survived by daughter Jean (Alan) and son Robert (Karen), grandchildren Jeffrey and Jenna, and two sisters, Lucy Greenwood and Ellen Smith.

Born in Kenville, Manitoba, her family moved to Chilliwack when she was 13 and she lived there for most of the remainder of her life. After high school graduation she worked as office manager at Chilliwack General Hospital. She met and married Jack in 1945. After he was demobilised, she and Jack moved to Bear Creek on Harrison Lake where he was a logger and where they raised Jean and Bob - as she later said, the happiest years of her life. Jack built a house in Sardis and they moved there in 1962. Iris became known for her garden and especially for her homemade bread, which the neighbourhood youth happily devoured on baking day. She was a stalwart volunteer with the Society for the Handicapped. After Jack's death in 1999, Iris continued to live in "the house that Jack built" until 2003 when she moved to a suite in Bob and Karen's house in Vancouver.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 1 at 2:00 pm at Henderson's Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack, BC. 604-792-1344
