April 6, 1923 – July 22, 2017

Henry Warkentin went home to be with his Lord and Saviour at the age of 94, passing away peacefully in Chilliwack General Hospital.

He was born on April 6, 1923 to Peter and Tina Warkentin in Gortschakowo, Ufa in Russia. During a difficult immigration from Russia when he was 3 years old, his mother and sister died. His father remarried and eventually the family settled in Abbotsford, BC in 1934. Henry accepted Jesus as his Saviour when he was 11 years old. After finishing high school by correspondence, he became a Conscientious Objector, serving in the Army Medical Corp. When he was sent overseas in 1944, he had many opportunities to preach the gospel in several European countries. Upon his return, he married Helen Neufeld in 1947. He completed a Bachelor of Divinity Degree in Ontario while working part-time, doing ministry and helping to raise his children. He pastored for over 30 years in churches in Leamington, Ontario, Chilliwack, BC, Watrous, Saskatchewan and Starnberg, Germany.

After his wife Helen died, he married Nettie Tiessen in 1992. Together they continued to serve the Lord until he passed away on July 22, 2107.

Henry was a man of strong faith, a prayer warrior, a peace-maker and a passionate preacher of the gospel.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Nettie, his children Carl (Ruth), Doris (Oly), Paul (Elaine), Kerri (Al), son-in-law Dave, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
