(Hank)

Hank Burrows passed away at Cascade Lodge, Chilliwack on December 28, 2008 at the age of 93. He was born at Stewartstown, Ireland. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Patricia; predeceased by his wife Nora.

As a youth, he and his family emigrated to Canada and settled in Toronto where he completed his education in aeronautical engineering. Hank enlisted in the RCAF in 1934, serving as an Air Frame technician with No. 10 City of Toronto Squadron. In 1936, he worked his way to England on a cattle boat where he joined the RAF and was accepted for pilot training and commissioned as a Pilot Officer. Hank’s illustrious career throughout WW II saw him in many theatres of War as he rose to the rank of Wing Commander.

Upon his return to civilian life, he was employed by Domtar as a construction materials specialist. Hank moved to Vancouver with Nora, his British War Bride in 1948, and settled in Chilliwack in 1981. He was a Life Member of the Air Force Association of Canada, an active member of the Achelitz Thresherman’s Association, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Masonic Order, also the CFB Chilliwack Historical Society and a valued member of various other Veteran’s organizations. Hank is remembered for his tireless devotion to the younger generations of school age children as he impressed upon them the traditional values of Canada’s military history, while keeping alive the memories of those sacrifices made by so many brave Canadians in the field of conflict.
