Helen Hill went to her eternal rest on November 28, 2012 at Abbotsford, BC at the age of 82 years.
Helen was born June 17, 1930 in Mullingar, Saskatchewan to Jacob & Sarah Hiebert. She was the fourth child of a family that would eventually have eight children.
Upon completion of her schooling she moved to Saskatoon, Sask. to begin her working career (1950). As a waitress at the Commodore Café she met, fell in love, and eventually married our father, Raymond Hill, in Vancouver, BC in 1953 when he returned from the Korean War. As he was still an active soldier she accompanied her new husband to be with his family in Glace Bay, NS while he arranged to be posted to the West Coast (CFB, Jericho Beach & CFB, Chilliwack) to start their new lives together.
Settling in the Chilliwack area they were eventually able to buy their first home on Walnut St. in Yarrow in 1962 where they raised their three children; Ken – 1954, Doug – 1956 and Debbie – 1960, and lived there until 1999 when they sold and moved to Agassiz, BC, where she got her new home.
Upon moving to Agassiz Helen, with her husband Ray, became volunteers with the “Meals on Wheels” program for several years. After Ray’s passing she continued to be active in the Agassiz Thrift Store, serving the area.
Helen continued to reside at 7292 Elm until failing health convinced her that she should downsize to an apartment at Cheam Manor in Agassiz, where she resided until the time of her passing.
Helen lived a full life being surrounded by family and many friends, some of them lifetime, that were acquired in her travels through life. She will be sadly missed.
Helen Hill will be sadly missed by sons Ken (Debbie) Hill, Doug (Diane) Hill and daughter Debbie Ahl; sisters Mary (Bill) Epp and Elma Osborne. Grandchildren Sarah, Jenn and Lisa Hill, Meagan and Helen Ahl, Karissa (Mike) Sheehan, Candace Hill (Johan Bate), and Courtney Hill. Great Grandchildren Summer Sheehan and Lyllia Bate.
Sadly predeceased by parents Jacob (1978) & Sarah Hiebert (1992); her husband of 50 years, Raymond Hill (2003); son Larry (1950), brothers Jacob (1924) and Abe (1952); sisters Margaret (2003), Anne (2009) and Betty (2011).
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home Chapel (45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack).
Visitation will take place Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 7 – 9 pm. Cremation to take place after the service.
