We are sad to announce that Gerry Plouffe succumbed to his injuries on March 14, after being struck by a car.
Born in Quebec, he met his wife Norah in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and they were a loving, inseparable pair who lived first in Europe and then in various locales in Canada before retiring in Sardis, BC.
With eighteen siblings between them, they valued family greatly and were never happier than when everyone was gathered together.
Always in motion and endlessly curious, Gerry pursued many interests over the years, from camping and fishing to woodworking, gardening, and beekeeping. He had a lifelong fascination with languages, and in addition to speaking French fluently, he also tackled Inuktitut, Japanese, and Spanish.
Above all, Gerry was a quiet man who demonstrated his affection with actions rather than words; a jack-of-all-trades, Gerry could fix anything, and he was always generous with his time and his ample garden, making him a valued member of every neighbourhood he lived in.
Although he greatly missed his wife Norah and his son Patrick who predeceased him, he lived an active life after their passing, recently celebrating his 92nd birthday.
He is survived by his three daughters, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, and he will be deeply missed as well by his large extended family.
A funeral mass will be held for him at 11:00 on Tuesday, March 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Parish in Chilliwack.
