It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Froukje Vander Wyk in her home on December 24th, 2009.
One day our tears will slow and we will find moments to smile remembering the love she had for her family. We will hear the echo of her laughter, and see the flowers bloom in her garden. Her greatest joys were her family.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 47 years, Wiebe Vander Wyk and her 4 children Rita (Peter) Vanlaerhoven, Bruce (Susi) Vander Wyk, Don (Terri) Vander Wyk, and Eric Vander Wyk, Sarah and Keira, as well as her grandchildren Scott, Alex, Linda, and Trevor Vanlaerhoven, Dexter, Holli, Amy, Megan, Caitlin, and Jayden Vander Wyk.
Froukje was born on September 11th 1941 in Siegerswouda, Friesland, Netherlands. She was the oldest of 10 children with 3 older step siblings. She met Wiebe in the Netherlands in 1960, and immigrated to Canada in 1961 to follow the man she loved. They married in 1962. Wiebe and Froukje lived the life of dairy farmers, working hard and making a good life for the family they raised. They lived in Pitt Meadows and Dewdney before moving to Agassiz in 1979 where they still farm today. Froukje’s passions were her flowers, vegetable garden, puzzling, and family get-togethers. Her greatest passion was her grandchildren, who she loved dearly.
Our family would like to thank the quick response of the Agassiz Ambulance Service and the Agassiz Fire Department. We also request that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the BC Children’s Hospital in her memory.
