Eleanor Beatrice GILES

Eleanor Beatrice Giles (nee Boyd) passed away suddenly but peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, March 13, 2006 at Chilliwack General Hospital, Chilliwack, BC.

Eleanor was a caring indepen–dent lady with a wonderful sense of humour. She loved her home, family and friends, pets who have shared her life, her truck, travelling, casinos, happy hour and a good joke.

Eleanor was born in Winnipeg, MB on March 20, 1922 to Irene and Frank Boyd. The family later moved to Moose Jaw, SK. She met and married RAF Airman Bill Giles on June 25, 1941 who was enrolled in the Commonwealth Air Training Plan at the Flying Training School in Moose Jaw. She followed her husband to England until 1948 when they returned to Winnipeg. Bill joined the RCAF, retired in 1970 and passed away in September 2001 but not before Eleanor and Bill had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2001.

One life dream of Eleanor’s was to visit her brother Eric’s grave at Ravena War Cemetery in Italy which became a reality in 2004.

Eleanor leaves behind two daughters Wendy Harry, Angus, ON, and Janice Scoffield and husband Brad, Half Moon Bay, CA and one son Eric Giles, Calgary, AB. Six grandchildren John Harry and wife Niki, Loretto, ON, Micki Giles and partner Gudrun, Barrie, ON, Tami Burns and partner Donna, Guelph, ON, Randy Morrell, San Francisco CA, and Clayton Giles and Lindsay Giles both of Calgary, AB. Two great grandchildren Kandace Way, Ottawa, ON and Tehra Harry, Victoria, BC. Six great, great-grandchildren Savana, Barbara, Harly and Hunter Way, Ottawa, ON, and Edyn and Nathanial Harry, Victoria, BC. Sisters Grace Smith, Holland, MN, and Violet Spratt and husband Ron, Chilliwack, BC and several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents, sister Ruth Gould and husband Murray, Moose Jaw, SK and brother Eric Boyd.

At Eleanor’s request, cremation has taken place. At the family’s request, donations of sympathy in Eleanor’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
